Governments

People talk about government as if it is a single thing. There are all kinds of governmental things which affect us. Business is not opposed to government. Businesses love governments when they do what they want and hate them when they don't. There are three branches of Federal and state governments and many agencies. There are overlapping municipal and county governments and agencies. Businesses compete with each other within localities and localities compete with each other. That is just in the United States.

Today the world is interconnected. What affects Asian and European economies affects the US economy. The US economy affects every other economy. So we have complexity and confusion. We have a need for systems thinking, the ability to make distinctions, and great care about details.
